Analysis Of The Mexican Surrealist Artist Frida Kahlo
Life will never be perfect, because with it comes a great amount of misfortune and unplanned events we canââ¬â¢t control. But, sometimes those unplanned events can lead us on great paths we would have never chosen on our own. Someone with such a life was the Mexican surrealist artist Frida Kahlo. From a young age Kahlo had proven to be a very bright child, and at the age of 15, she enrolled in an elite predominantly male preparatory school. There she planned to become a doctor and took courses in biology, zoology, and anatomy. However, Phyllis Tuchman writes, ââ¬Å"...on September 17, 1925, the bus which she was writing home from school was rammed by a trolley car. A metal handrail broke off and pierced her pelvis.â⬠Due to this event,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The child itself is holding onto a red ribbon, which extends up toward the sky creating a texture of branches, and on them are couples. Amie R. Gillingham writes, ââ¬Å"In this painting, she illustrate s busts of her Mexican maternal and German paternal grandparents connected to her parents via a blood-like red ribbon that she (as a naked child) holds at the center of the composition.â⬠Based on what is written itââ¬â¢s safe to indicate that the art piece is a way of representing the way Kahol felt about being a first generation of a mixed Latin American woman. She is just one person who would now have to carried different kinds of backgrounds, from both sides of her family. But, these two inherited traits were actually the thing that made Kahol who she really was. In the end, she identified with both of her inherited family blood because it was a part of her she chooses to accept. Even though it brought a lot of conflicts, these two cultural groups were constantly represented within her self-portraits she made of herself. Even though we are the first factors to play in our own cultural identities, the loved ones around us play a major role as well. Legal and ethical management Free Essays
The future of any organization depends on its employees. It has been observed that organizations with intelligent, efficient and devoting employees progress more than those which compromise with workforce efficiency. These days several tests like cognitive abilities, motor and physical abilities, personality interests, and achievement tests have come up. We will write a custom essay sample on Legal and ethical management or any similar topic only for you Order Now By conducting these tests on applicants his/or her abilities can be properly judged and hence a proper selection of employees can be made. (King, 2006, 45) Cognitive abilities test In cognitive abilities test the aptitude of an applicant to work intelligently and efficiently in unfavorable situations or under pressure or in distracting and competing situations is tested.à The speed with which an applicant focuses his attention on any issue, understands it, encodes and categorizes it is observed. His ability to analyze and implement comprehensive instructions accurately, his versatility to respond properly to two or more different issues of concern at a time, his ability to recognize the importance and urgency of some issues and making specific response to those issues, his ability to maintain speed with perfection is tested. The potential of a person in maintaining steady and precise responses during unremitting and recurring activities is observed. The ability of a person to formulate programs and recall and put them into action efficiently and accurately is observed. In cognitive abilities test individualââ¬â¢s capability of identifying and analyzing perceptual information, discriminating the information and processing the information to derive solutions for the problems is also tested. (King, 2006, 97) Personality interests tests Personality and interests test measure applicantââ¬â¢s interests, choices, emotional makeup, personal characteristics and stability.à This test can help in assessing the applicantââ¬â¢s talents and skills and hence jobs can be allotted based on their interests. Personality test is a kind of psychological test and is conducted to determine applicantââ¬â¢s personality, interests, values and skills. By this test managements can have a better idea of what kind of person the applicant is and what are his capabilities. Achievement tests Achievement tests are the test of the applicantââ¬â¢s performance. Unlike the Cognitive abilities test this test is a kind of practical test. In this test the applicant is made to face the real working conditions of the organization, so that the actual performance of the candidate can be properly judged. These tests are very beneficial for both the candidate and the management. The candidate becomes acquainted of the original working condition of the organization and the management of the organization can get an idea of the capability of the applicant. (Lamb, 2004, 228) Motor and physical abilities test In motor and physical abilities test applicantââ¬â¢s physical fitness and strength is tested. There is a popular saying that a healthy body can only have a healthy mind. An employee, who is physically fit, can work with all his heart and sole.à In every company there are certain types of jobs for which physically fit and strong employees are needed. Thus physical abilities test is must. Motor ability test is an individualââ¬â¢s ability to perform motor skills is tested. The applicant should have fine motor control. The applicant must have the aptitude to control motor movements accurately. So that making incorrect responses can be avoided and more motor speed can be obtained. Advantages and disadvantages of the above testing systems There are several advantages and disadvantages of the above testing systems. Cognitive abilities, Achievement tests and Physical abilities testing systems are the most legitimate testing systems. Cognitive abilities tests are highly reliable. The method of numerical tests, aptitude tests and verbal reasoning has high validity, which increases with complexity of job. This test can be conducted with several candidates at a time. Thus have higher validities. Results can be generated through computerized equipments. Thus this test saves both time and money and is advantageous than personality tests. Physical abilities test help in identifying candidates who are physically unfit for any specific job. This tests decrease companyââ¬â¢s costs on insurances, medical and disability claims and workers compensations. It also decreases non-attendance among workers due to medical reasons. Achievement tests are very beneficial for both the candidate and the management. The candidate becomes acquainted of the original working condition of the organization and the management of the organization can get an idea of the capability of the applicant. Personality interest tests have more negative ethical and legal consequences than the Cognitive abilities, Achievement tests and Physical abilities testing system.à There are no proper answers to personality tests.à Thus scoring of the test can be questioned. Assessment of applicantââ¬â¢s personal behavior is practically not possible. The applicant may hide his original nature during selection. Evidences supporting personal behavior of the candidate may not be available. Any applicant might have interest in any job, but this does not prove he is good in it. Personality of an applicant has lesser impact on his job performance than his education and experience. Again this method of testing is very costly. (King, 2006, 117-9) Contribution of modern technology in staff selection process Advancements in technology have helped to make the applicant testing and selection process more efficient. The previous hand scoring method of testing where marks were calculated by adding number of correct answers given by the candidate is an erroneous process. Now days with use of computers computer-based scoring and optical scanning systems have come up. Tests are scored with the help of a computer and software designed test scoring. On-site systems produce test scores and as well provide interpretive reports. Mail-in and fax scoring system completed answer sheets are scanned and faxed or mailed to test publisher. He checks the papers, calculates the scores and sends reports to the employer. (King, 2006, 15) It is very important to make a proper choice while appointing employees in the organization. Assessment of applicantââ¬â¢s interests, personality, and skills aptitude and physical fitness help in determining which kind of job will be appropriate for the candidate. Cost Leadership Strategy Of ALDI - Solution is Just a Click Away
Question: Discuss about theCost Leadership Strategy of ALDI. Answer: Introduction ALDI is one of the common supermarket brands of Germany. It has around 10000 stores in 18 countries and has an estimated turnover of about 50 billion pounds (ALDI UK | Homepage 2017). The company has entered the market of United Kingdom in the year 1990, which had provided the organization to attain maximum expansion capabilities. The company has been successful in handling various strategical implementation s thereby upgrading their framework in accordance to the current digital economy. The advancement of technology in todays world, has subjected the organizations to raise their productivity in a cost effective method. By implementing such effective advancements, the subjected companies are able to produce and expand their sales much more than before. It not only affects the productivity of the firm, yet, it also deals with the promotional activities that attract the customers towards it, thereby, generating revenue. In the year 1950, Joseph Schumpeter had coined a new concept in the world of economics termed as comparative destruction (Schumpeter, 2013). He had derived this concept based on the work of Karl Marx. According to this theory, the industrial mutation of an organization based on new production techniques, new markets, new products, innovative measures, etc., helps in keeping the capitalist economy in motion. The term comparative destruction focuses on destroying the old measures of production, in order to implement the new one. It is quite an important concept in the field of economics as it helps in sustaining the development of the firm along with initiating cost effective measures (Hall, 2013). Currently digital economy prevails in the society, which is dependent upon the technological advancements and implementations. ALDI, being one of the top most supermarkets in the field, has adapted the concept of digital economy with flexibility. They have extended their tries with VeriFone that would help in supplying special equipment to the company (Payment Solutions POS Solutions : Official Verifone US Site. 2017). This would make the payment acceptance through mobile wallet. With the implementation of such an application in the economy, ALDI would be able to generate large amount of sales to its customers. There would be hassle free payment for the products that are bought by the consumers from their stores. It would lead to a smoother and hassle free implementation of payments. By doing so ALDI would raise the efficiency of their stores in managing the customers moreover, it would even attain a cost leadership method by reducing their labour costs. As the payment would be done by the consumers itself with the help of their smart phones, ALDI would not require extra employees in their stores for the payment section (Guillaume Blanchet, Legendre He, 2015). Hence, this application of the technology would be convenient for both the consumers and the organization. It could be seen from the above case study, how ALDI being an old company has been able to change their business process pattern along with the change in the economy. It has adapted the technological advancements of the digital economy thereby improving their cost conditions and raising the frequency of sales. It has been able to bring convenience and profit generation aspect in their firm by applying the theory of comparative destruction. Reference Hall, J. R. (Ed.). what is the sociological perspective (imagination) Essay Example For Students
what is the sociological perspective (imagination) Essay Diane Ihlenfeldt February 13, 2004 Question 1: What is the sociological perspective? What is the nature of the social sciences? This is the question that began the study of society, first performed by C. Wright Mills in his development of the idea of the sociological imagination. There are many different aspects to the sociological perspective. Merriam-Webster dictionary defines perspective as the capacity to view things in their true relations or relative importance. Having a sociological perspective means that you view all of societies components and their relationship to the individual. We will write a custom essay on what is the sociological perspective (imagination) specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now First I will discuss how individuals are socialized. Next I will point out societal structures role in that socialization. Finally I will discuss how the sociological perspective allows us to view different inequalities in the world. While growing up we rarely think about why we do things the way that we do, and make the decisions that we make. From infancy we are socialized, meaning that we are trained how to exist within our social environment. By developing a sociological perspective we are able to see that we are socialized, and view how our social environment has an effect on the decisions that we make. Social environments differ across many boundaries including, but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, and class. For example I was raised within a poor, Caucasian, single parent, low class family, which means that the decisions I make may be different from the decisions made by someone raised in a rich, Catholic, Hispanic, two parent, upper middle class family. For example because we were poor, my mother was uneducated, our class was low, and our religion played as more of a financial support system than a moral characterizing system, we consider it okay to have children outside of the structural bounds of marriage. There are different rules, known as norms, by which we must abide in order to be considered well adjusted to society. It is important to understand that one does not spontaneously become the person that they are, and automatically follow the norms that they follow. They must be taught by others in their society such as their parents, as well as by societal structures such as education, and the media. Although most Americans would like to think of themselves as autonomous beings, it is a fact that our choices are shaped by larger social forces around us such as the historical or cultural contexts and social institutions. We make these decisions because we have internalized the values, beliefs, and norms of our culture. Through socialization we learn to perform different roles such as American citizen, mother, or worker. Along with socialization comes our shaping by societal structures. Societal structures refer to the pattern within culture and organization through which social action takes place. A good example of a societal structure is the media. The media has a major affect on how society is conditioned to follow certain norms. For example we learn about what is acceptable and unacceptable by watching the news. The news will cover issues such as murder, rape, and incest, condemning them, making it know that these actions are deviant. Societal structure includes the arrangement of roles, organizations, institutions, and cultural symbols. These roles, organizations, institutions and cultural symbols are often invisible, and remain stable over long periods of time. Having a sociological perspective also allows us to view the inequalities in the world between different classes, races, and genders. We are able to see how someone who is African American has to struggle to get to a high executive office, an office that is easier to attain for a white male. Sociologists find it important to note that the differences between us are not so much biological as they are cultural. We are socialized by our society and societal structures. Those structures often promote the inequalities found within a society. The sociological perspective allows us to see with the naked eye just how society works, and the effects is has on its members. It is important for every person to discover the sociological perspective, allowing them to have a broader understanding of the world around them and themselves. .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282 , .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282 .postImageUrl , .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282 , .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282:hover , .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282:visited , .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282:active { border:0!important; } .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282:active , .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282 .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4a39c031ae670b905b42b5d89a8e8282:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Quite literally dying to be thin Essay .

How to Make Real Snow at Home
How to Make Real Snow at Home If you want to see or play in snow, but Mother Nature wont cooperate, you can take matters into your own hands and make snow yourself. This is the homemade version of real water ice snow, just like the snow that falls from the sky. What You Need You need the same things found in nature: water and cold temperature. You turn the water into snow by dispersing it into particles small enough to freeze in the cold air. WaterPressure nozzle There is a handy snowmaking weather tool that will tell you whether you have the proper conditions for making snow. In some climates, the only way youll be able to make snow is if you chill a room indoors (or you can make fake snow), but much of the world can make real snow at least a few days out of the year. Pressure Nozzle You have several options: Pressure washer (own or rent, use a fine mist nozzle or use a nozzle specially designed for producing snow)Snow cannon (not affordable to buy, but can be rented)Garden hose with a snow attachment (makes less snow per hour than the pressure washer or snow cannon, but still fun) Note: Simply using a mister attached to a garden hose isnt likely to work unless the temperature is very cold. The mist particles may not be small enough or far enough apart to turn water into ice. Fine Mist All you need to do is spray a fine mist of water into the air so it cools down enough to freeze into water ice or snow. Theres a technique to this. Spray at Angleà Youll get much better results if you point your water spray upward at a 45-degree angle rather than straight up. The amount of air you get mixed in with the water makes a difference, so you want to maximize this. Water Cold as Possible You also want the water to be as cold as possible, so water from a cold stream will work better than, say, heated water from your home. Impurities Are Good The water from a stream or river also has the advantage of containing impurities which can act as nucleation sites to provide a surface on which snow crystals can grow. Add a Nucleating Agent Its also possible to add what is called a nucleating agent to your water which will accomplish the same purpose, essentially allowing you to produce snow at slightly warmer temperatures. The nucleating agent typically is a non-toxic polymer. Snow machines for ski resorts can use this effect to make snow even if the temperature is above freezing. If your water supply naturally contains a bit of sand, this can help you make snow at slightly warmer temperatures than if you were using pure water. You need only a few hours of cold to make a lot of snow. The snow will last longer if the temperature stays cold, but it will take a while to melt even if it warms up. Use Boiling Water If the temperature outdoors is extremely cold, its actually easier to make snow using boiling hot water than cold water. This technique works reliably only if the temperature is at least 25 degrees below zero Fahrenheit (below -32 à °C). To do this, throw a pan of freshly boiled water into the air. Easy and Spectacular It seems counter-intuitive that boiling water would readily turn to snow. How does it work? Boiling water has a high vapor pressure. The water is very close to making the transition between a liquid and a gas. Throwing the boiling water into the air offers the molecules a lot of surface area exposed to freezing temperatures. The transition is easy and spectacular. Protect Hands and Face While its likely anyone performing this process would be bundled up against the extreme cold, take care to protect your hands and face from the boiling water.
